Becoming a Peer Scholar

Definition: An instructor who is working to modify his or her teaching with the assistance of a peer coach

Participating scholars will:

  • Submit an application (online) requesting a peer coach.
    • Applications should be accompanied by a copy of the syllabus for the course the scholar intends to modify.
    • Scholars must commit to a consultation, observations, and a debriefing session with a peer coach. The content of these meetings will be confidential between the scholar and coach. Each session will feature:
      • A pre-class conference with the peer coach.
      • An observation of the peer coach teaching at least one class.
      • An observation of the scholar teaching two classes (one before and one after development of action plan).
      • Post-class debriefing sessions with the peer coach.
  •  Following the initial class observation, the scholar will identify a simple action plan with up to three ideas for changes to their class.  Ideally, these changes will be implemented prior to the peer coach’s second class visit.
  • Following the peer coaching interaction, the scholar will complete an anonymous online assessment of their experience in the peer coaching program.
