Program Format and Curriculum:
Program participants will complete six workshops focused on various facets of teaching practice.
Four workshops sponsored by OFD will focus on core teaching concepts:
- Active learning,
- Course design,
- Assessment strategies
- Student engagement
Core workshops will be offered each semester. Additionally, participants will complete two workshops from any of five other focus areas: Diversity in the classroom (workshop sponsored by OIED); Learning technologies (workshop sponsored by DELTA); Writing across the curriculum (workshop sponsored by CWSP); Service learning (workshop sponsored by OFD); any non-core OFD workshop (not including webinars).
In addition to completing six workshops, participants will take part in one intensive activity, either a reading circle or a summer institute sponsored through the Office of Faculty Development (see OFD website for more information about these programs).
Finally, all participants will complete a capstone project. Possible examples of capstone projects might include:
- Developing a presentation for a teaching-focused conference
- Developing a one-hour workshop presentation for delivery on campus
- Presenting a poster at the spring Teaching and Learning Symposium
- Implementing a scholarship of teaching and learning project
Upon completion of all required workshops, intensive experiences, capstone project and teaching philosophy statement, participants will be asked to write a brief reflection on the overall experience for purposes of program evaluation.
Participants will have two calendar years to complete the program requirements and will be recognized at the annual Teaching and Learning symposium in spring semester of the year that they complete the program requirements. Prospective participants can chose to count NCSU workshops attended any time from the Fall of 2009 to current.
