University Teaching Awards

Welcome to the North Carolina State University
Teaching Awards  2011-2012

In the fall between September 1 and October 2, NC State students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to nominate professors for university teaching awards via an electronic form, or by submitting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the colleges.  (Check with your college’s nomination deadline, as it may not be the same as the electronic nomination deadline). Faculty members can be recommended for the Board of Governors’ Award for Excellence in Teaching, membership in NC State’s Academy of Outstanding Teachers, and for positions as Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professors.

The Provost’s Memo For Teaching Awards includes each college’s due date for submissions for the Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor award, Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the Outstanding Teacher Award. Please note that these dates vary.

The Process

Each college has a committee that reviews electronically submitted nominees as well as nominees sent directly to the colleges. They make their selection for submission to the Office of Faculty Development.

Once nominees for Board of Governors, Outstanding Teacher, and Alumni Distinguished Professors are submitted to this office by the academic colleges and, once reviewed for eligibility, a separate committee for each award meets to discuss the nominees, makes a selection, and then forwards the results to the Provost.  The Holladay Medal submission packets may be made by anyone at any time during the year, however they must be submitted by the date noted below to be considered in the current year pool. You may view the committee setup by visiting each of the awards and browsing to the “Committee” pages.
